Today, FUJIFILM Corporation announced its entry into the flexible packaging market with the new Jet Press FP 790 water-based inkjet digital press. The plan is to launch the new Jet Press product in the Northeast market. in the fall of 2021, and then gradually extend it to Europe and other parts of the world. Fujifilm will continue to leverage the hugely successful Jet Press brand in its digital press line.
The packaging markets and in particular the flexible packaging segment are expected to continue to grow steadily globally in the coming years. In particular, digital printing for flexible packaging is becoming more and more necessary as it meets a number of market and consumer demands that can only be accomplished by using a high-end digital production asset. Increased demand for shorter, more strategic runs, faster delivery times, stiff competition between brands for storage space, much shorter product lifecycles and a more eco-friendly printing process. The environment are the engines of this expected enormous growth.
In 2011, Fujifilm began bringing the Jet Press series of digital inkjet production presses to the global commercial printing market ahead of other companies. We have been able to provide the commercial printing markets with the highest image reproduction quality and productivity that surpass even the best offset printing presses, allowing the Jet Press brand to achieve a share of high market worldwide. To date, we have installed over 250 Jet Press machines and continue our leadership in the global market. In 2017, Fujifilm started selling the Jet Press 540WV, a digital UV inkjet press for flexible packaging applications in Japan. Based on these experiences, Fujifilm is moving faster and more broadly to full production digital printing for flexible packaging. Using its unique expertise and history in the development of digital images and inkjet heads, combined with its knowledge of materials, inks and coatings, will enable Fujifilm to offer processors of packaging an exceptional opportunity to enter a new digital platform.
Main features of the Jet Press FP790 products
1) Environmentally friendly design and printing process
Fujifilm uses environmentally friendly water-based primers and water-based inkjet technologies, which meet or exceed all regulatory requirements for flexible packaging printing. The laminating, slitting and bag making processes can be handled the same way as existing analog printing, so no additional capital investment is required. Eliminating the costly and environmentally unfriendly plate manufacturing process allows for much faster delivery times, no minimum order requirements, advanced differentiation as well as faster time to market .
2) High productivity for short, medium and strategic series
The maximum substrate width is 790mm or 31 inches and the print line speed is 50 meters or 164 feet per minute regardless of the number of colors. Change of single print jobs and design adjustments can be implemented in minutes. This will contribute to the overall improvement in the production efficiency of the entire plant by using it in combination with existing analog assets.
3) Wide color gamut and high quality reproduction
Using resolutions of 1200 X 1200 DPI with CMYK color inks, the FP 790 can achieve over 90% of the PANTONE color gamut, while also using two white inkjet channels to deliver high white opacity. This wide color gamut will allow processors to achieve a special match of brands and spot colors without the need for additional special inks.
Fujifilm is committed to developing innovative new products and components for the digital printing market, which we believe is entering a period of long-term exponential growth in flexible packaging.
