Since October 2020, I have been communicating with the public through this monthly article on all the big things happening in Chautauqua County with regards to economic development. These comments may include discussions of specific public interest projects that are underway or have been completed, where they are at and, if completed, how they are operating. They may also include discussions of initiatives undertaken at various agencies or at the county level, including, but not limited to, the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency, the Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation, the Chautauqua County Partnership for Economic Growth, the Chautauqua County Planning and Development Department, the Chautauqua County Land Bank Corporation, the Workforce Development Board, the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, educational institutions, foundations or one of many agencies whose mission makes it an essential partner in economic development initiatives across the county.
This month, I feature Jamestown Advanced Products Corporation, a Jamestown-based company that continues to innovate, thrive and create jobs.
As Jamestown Advanced Products, Corporation approaches nearly four decades of activity as a US metals manufacturer, the family business is experiencing record growth and expansion. Known primarily as a leading manufacturer of industrial grade camping products and site furniture in North America, the development of Jamestown Advanced Products is due to the growth of camping and the public’s propensity to covet the outdoors, as well as the recent success of two of the additional divisions – the new tools Homestead and SevereClean Ultrasonics.
While still feeling the impact of the global pandemic, Jamestown Advanced Products launched the brand new division, Homestead Implements, reinvigorated existing SevereClean Ultrasonics, and achieved record 2020 sales in its camping division. Led by a constantly growing sales team, Jamestown Advanced Products has capitalized on the nationwide rush to find socially remote vacation opportunities. This opportunity has come in the form of thousands of campgrounds across North America.
The company’s founding, Jamestown Advanced Products, is known nationwide as a leading manufacturer of commercial grade site furniture and camping products. With the recent boom in campground travel, Jamestown Advanced Products is well positioned for continued year-over-year growth. Campers and travelers can find their products in national parks, KOA campgrounds and towns, including locally in downtown Jamestown.
As the business progresses, new product lines are being developed that will continue to drive Jamestown Advanced Products forward in the site furnishings market. This spring marked the release of their all-new Empire collection, a modern slim-profile furniture set finished in ipe, a Brazilian hardwood known for its durability and beautiful natural hue. The company also recently partnered with Recycling Across America to deliver a standardized set of labels to their trash cans to improve recycling efficiency across the country.
Originally slated to launch in February 2020, Homestead Implements has delayed unveiling due to the emergence of COVID-19. Finally launched in July, Homestead Implements has seen immediate interest that has grown over the past nine months to unexpected highs. The new division, which required an increase in employees and unique processing technology, is on track to achieve record sales in its first year alone, with no end in sight. Co-owner Lee Lodestro said: “We continue to research the market and design new attachments that can improve the impact of a tractor. “ Homestead Implements offers a full line of attachments, including bed blades, ground planers, landscape rakes, hole diggers, brush cutters and tillers. Yet by far the best-selling item is their grapple set, a versatile front-end hydraulic attachment that is taking the tractor world by storm. “Grapples are still relatively new to the tractor scene, and we are proud to offer several variations that combine American workmanship, unique design features and rugged materials.” said Lodestro. “A grapple goes beyond a standard tractor bucket and completely changes the way a tractor owner uses their machine around their property.
Lodestro is a long-time tractor owner and enthusiast who wanted to manufacture and develop a line of heavy-duty tractor accessories for the small farmer and farmer. With industry giants like Kubota and John Deere experiencing significant delivery delays and supply chain disruptions, the market was ripe for a new player in compact tractor accessories. Homestead Implements accessories are already available from two equipment suppliers in Chautauqua County, 3 Seas Recreation in Mayville and Larry Romance & Son in Sheridan. With several other dealer orders placed and many additional inquiries, Homestead Implements is thrilled to be able to provide homesteaders across the country with high quality USA made accessories.
Homestead Implements is also offering a 10% discount on military appreciation to active and retired members of the US military. Additionally, they have partnered with the national nonprofit Farmer Veteran Coalition and their 2021 Farmer Fellowship Fund to donate tools to veterans looking to continue their post-military farming efforts. When asked, Lee said, “As a Navy veteran myself, I was adamant that we could provide our tools at a discount to other members of the service. We’ve seen a huge influx of orders taking advantage of the rebate, and the work we do with the Farmer Veteran Coalition is just another way to help support an important cause.
Another umbrella division of Jamestown Advanced Products, SevereClean Ultrasonics, specializes in designing custom ultrasonic cleaning solutions for an endless range of industrial applications. Still relatively new to mainstream manufacturing awareness, ultrasonic cleaning systems are replacing harsh chemicals and labor-intensive processing practices of the past in environmentally friendly packaging. Led by an experienced sales staff and a creative design team, SevereClean Ultrasonics is excited to start expanding its product line and showcasing this powerful technology to companies that can truly benefit from it.
The main function of ultrasonic cleaning equipment is to clean endless debris, dust, oils, chemicals and other residues from the manufacturing process in a much more efficient manner than previous methods. When combined with SevereClean’s proprietary blend of environmentally friendly cleaning agents, businesses will immediately notice an impact on their parts throughput, reduced labor costs and substantial savings. SevereClean has worked with countless industries over the years to deliver impeccable results when cleaning materials as small as medical instruments and as large as transmissions and engine parts for airplanes and some military applications.
Located near Jamestown Airport, Jamestown Advanced Products, Corp. is delighted to continue decades of tradition and usher in a new generation of high quality products. The company was also recently featured on Fox Business Network’s long-standing segment, Manufacturing Marvels, highlighting the company’s extensive facilities and hardworking team. You can view the video on Jamestown Advanced’s YouTube channel and their website. With over 140 employees and growing, they remain well positioned to remain a mainstay of manufacturing in Chautauqua County for another forty years.
