KVH Watch Adds New Cloud Connect Service Bringing Sensor Data to Cloud for Smart IoT Shipping

New advanced hybrid cloud environment from maritime innovator KVH supports large volumes of data and provides high-speed data processing at the edge

MIDDLETOWN, RI, November 03, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI), a global leader in maritime satellite connectivity, today announced the expansion of its KVH watch® suite of maritime IoT solutions with Cloud Connect, a service designed to use advanced state-of-the-art computing to enable the integration of maritime applications and digital services for intelligent shipping. The Cloud Connect service has been tested on board ships and is available to order today for shipment on November 30, 2021.

Cloud Connect is designed to meet the complexity of managing data from hundreds of onboard sensors with a comprehensive package containing data source definitions, data mappings, and associated dashboards. An integrated Cloud Connect Edge server aggregates and processes data from vessel sensors and provides a containerized hybrid cloud architecture to enable downsampling, data storage and data access for analysis, data reporting in the cloud and dynamic visualizations.

“The power of Cloud Connect lies in its ability to turn data into economic benefits for a fleet of vessels,” says Sven Brooks, senior director of IoT business development for KVH. “With the data acquisition, aggregation and analysis capabilities of Cloud Connect, connectivity from the sensor level on ships to analytics in the cloud is poised to change the paradigm at sea.”

KVH Watch Cloud Connect is designed to provide an edge-to-cloud IoT connectivity solution for the many players in the maritime industry. Vessel owners and operators can view real-time operational data, such as noon reports, MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) reports or EEXI (Energy Efficiency Index of Existing Vessels) compliance; they can also see the performance of each system and vessel based on the chosen KPIs. Equipment manufacturers and multi-card service providers can monitor on-board equipment to support service contracts and warranties through versatile data analysis reporting tools and customizable dashboards. Vessel performance analysis and optimization consultants can rapidly deploy digital services, condition-based alarms and dashboards for fuel savings and operational efficiency across a fleet using KVH plans written according to ISO 19848 standardizing data channel names for comparisons.

Cloud Connect is part of the KVH Watch IoT maritime suite, which includes the ability to perform remote expert interventions on demand using video, voice or text via KVH’s global HTS network. KVH Watch is designed with stakeholder budgets in mind as a Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) program offered for an all-inclusive monthly plan with no equipment purchase or maintenance fees for Watch terminal, Cloud equipment Connect or remote expert response equipment for the duration of the subscription. For cybersecurity, the KVH Watch antenna provides an isolated local area network, sensor-level data connectivity, secure Wi-Fi for SOLAS regulated spaces and a dedicated connectivity solution separating IT and OT as recommended by IMO 2020.

KVH is dedicated to supporting and accelerating intelligent navigation by making monitoring, data analysis, remote service and actionable data on the high seas a reality. Key to the solution is an ever-expanding network of Watch Solution partners with the expertise to deliver cutting-edge IoT services made possible by Watch connectivity.
