Mumbai: Kush Malpani of Cathedral and John Connon School won gold representing India at the 2022 International Olympiad in Economics, hosted by China and contested by 42 countries from around the world. The event brought together 42 countries from around the world. The results were announced on August 2, 2022

Kush ranked fifth in the world in the Economics category and also received the “Best in Economics” award. Kush outperformed in multiple rounds involving very rigorous, math-oriented economic concepts and applications to solve macro and micro problems in the shortest possible time. Only 2 Indian students have won the gold medal in this Olympiad including Kush Malpani from Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai and Thanush Sawhney from Sanskriti School, New Delhi

Kush adds, “Representing India at the International Olympiad in Economics 2022 was nothing short of an honor, and I hope I have justified the trust placed in me. I am extremely honored to have been awarded the medal. Gold at the 2022 International Economics Olympiad, hosted by China.

Elaborates Kush, “This journey started with a simple Google search and a cold email to Meccademia India, the Indian team selectors for IEO 2022. With several rounds of tests and interviews to be one of the 5 selected from the Indian team of over 5,000 students, the journey to gold has been nothing short of extraordinary. To be the first team in the history of India to win 2 gold medals at the IEO was unreal and an absolute privilege.
